From Bloomingpedia
Thomas D. Brock (September 10, 1926 – April 4, 2021) was an assistant professor of bacteriology at Indiana University from 1960 until 1971. Through research funded by the National Science Foundation starting in 1965, he and his team including Hudson Freeze discovered that bacteria could thrive at temperatures above 70 degrees celsius in the hot springs at Yellowstone National Park. This key discovery made possible the invention of polymerase chain reaction (PCR), which revolutionized biology.
