The City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department understands that quality of life is vital to the residents of Bloomington. The numerous facilities and hundreds of recreational programs provided by the Parks and Recreation Department contribute directly to the health and well-being of the entire community. The Department is a dynamic organization that constantly responds to change, develops new programs, adds and upgrades facilities and continues its efforts to preserve greenspace.

As a result of the quality services, parks and facilities provided by the professional and dedicated staff, the Parks and Recreation Department was named a finalist for the Gold Medal Award, sponsored by the National Recreation and Parks Association, in 1999, 2002, 2003 and 2004. This award is the highest recognition an agency can receive and is indicative of an organization of professional and talented staff that provides high quality parks and recreation services to their community.
