Douglas Hofstadter
Douglas Hofstadter (February 15th, 1945 - ) is a faculty member of the Department of Computer Science, in the School of Informatics at Indiana University. He has a particular interest in analogies, recursion, and self-reference, and has coined, for example, "Hofstadter's Law": It always takes longer than you think, even when you take into account Hofstadter's Law.
His published works include: Gödel, Escher, Bach: an Eternal Golden Braid and I Am a Strange Loop. He won the 1980 Pulitzer Prize for GEB in general non-fiction.
Dr. Hofstadter also wrote a column for Scientific American called Metamagical Themas. The collected columns were later published in book form.
The first book/product sold on the Amazon was Dr. Hofstadter's 1995 book Fluid Concepts And Creative Analogies: Computer Models Of The Fundamental Mechanisms Of Thought.
