January

  • 11th - "Spunk" Jones is sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Alva Stevens at his lunch stand on Kirkwood Avenue near the Monon station. Fearing a lynching, officers sneak Jones away to Indianapolis.

February

  • 13th - Preston Lang kills his father-in-law, Arthur Young, in self-defense.
  • 19th - Auditors file a report on the books of former City Treasurer W. A. Rice. The report seems to have shown that Rice kept very little paperwork on his money handling. The books of City Clerk Henry Axtell were not called into question.

March

  • 11th Policeman William Shinn shoots and kills Charles Carr. Shinn is later acquitted on the grounds that the shooting was in the line of duty.

  • Thomas Vanest is taken from his home near South Bethany and whitecapped.

July

August

  • 8th - Harvey Hinkle shoots and kills John McClintock, and wounds his sweetheart Edna Rogers. It would be months before his capture.

September

  • 15th - Otis Allen shoots and kills Raymond Sparks. He is acquitted of murder on the grounds of self-defense.
